Polonnaruwa was the second largest capital of Sri Lanka in the 11th to 13th centuries.
The remains of this large city can be well visited by bike. There are many parts of palaces, Buddhist and Hindu monasteries preserved. Everything was protected by a defensive wall and there are still parts of it left.
At the museum of Polunnaruwa are the tickets for sale. This museum is also worth a visit to get a good idea of this ancient culture.
