Haputale is situated on a ridge high in the hills between the tea plantations. The village is high and from here you have a beautiful view. Near Haputale is the Dambatanne tea factory in the middle of the tea plantations. A little further up the mountain is Lipton Seat. A beautiful viewpoint over the tea plantations and the whole area. The best time is in the morning to visit this because in the afternoon there is often mist and rain over the hills. A few kilometres from Haputale lies the 19th century English country house Adisham. Nowadays a Benedictine monastery and it is only possible to visit during holidays and weekends. From Haputale to the southeast towards Wellawaya is Buduruwagala. A beautiful archaeological site. In the rock face are 7 very large figures i carved in bas-relief.
The middle one is Buddha and with 16 meters high the highest one in Sri Lanka. The statues probably date from the 9th or 10th century.
