Sri lanka once consisted entirely of dense rainforests. Nowadays there is almost nothing left of that. Sinharaja Forest Reserve is one of the last tropical rainforests in Sri Lanka. It is a protected nature reserve and is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Some trees are up to 50 meters high. This beautiful national park can only be visited with a guide. In this impervious jungle you can see the many tree species (and real forest giants), lianas, ferns and orchids. The sound of the cicadas and birds is beautiful. But there are also beautiful large butterflies, insects, snakes and lizards, birds, monkeys and squirrels. There are a number of beautiful routes / trails through the area. Because of the high humidity of this forest there are many leeches so protective socks are definitely recommended. The area lives up to its name and a raincoat or jacket or umbrella is definitely good to take along because it actually rains there every day.

What to see and do:
Walking through the jungle, you can spend the night in the park and you can make a jeep safari.
