Colombo is the capital of Sri lanka. And has everything a big city can offer.
Large shopping malls, high apartment buildings, Buddhist temples, Hindu temples, churches and mosques, museums and parks. It’s a hectic city where buses, cars, trucks, motorcycles and tuk tuk’s on the same road criss-cross through each other!
In the bazaar district Pettah you can buy almost anything. The streets in this district are divided into what you can buy there. So you have a street full of clothes, another with rags, with electrical appliances, with herbs, with vegetables, fish etc. People walk with large baskets on their heads or handcarts stacked very high. It is wonderful to see how everything goes here and even if you do not want to buy anything you can spend time here.
In the middle of this district is the red white Jami ul Alfar mosque. A very eye-catching building.
In the district Cinemon Garden is the beautiful park Viharamahadevi park. As soon as the sun goes down you can see hundreds of big bats / flying dogs flying here that have hung in the trees all day.
Near the park is the National Museum. A beautiful museum that gives you a good idea of the history of ( handcraft ) art through the centuries.

What to see and do:
Shopping, walking, museums, temples, churches, food.
