Kandy is a large hectic city that lies between the hills at 500 m above sea level. From Kandy you look at a gigantic Buddha standing on a hill.
From the hills around Kandy and suburbs of Kandy you look at this city with the famous temple Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) which is beautifully located on the edge of a lake. This is the most important Buddhist temple of Sri Lanka. Here the tooth relic is kept. Pilgrims come here from all over Sri Lanka and Asia.
Kandy is a busy city with many small shops but also has shops from the larger chains.There are museums, a city jungle park and a beautiful botanical garden on the edge of the city near the university.
