Negombo is situated on the bank of a lagoon. In the past it has been an important trading port for both the Dutch and the Portuguese in colonial times. Negombo is a beautiful seaside resort on the sea side of the western part of the island of Sri Lanka. It is only a short drive from Colombo and has a beautiful coastline with palm trees. Negombo is located near the airport where most flights arrive and is therefore a great place to get your first impressions of Sri Lanka.
