Dambulla is a busy trading city, but most people come here to visit the golden Buddha and the cave temples.
This modern golden Buddha is 30m high and stands in front of the rock of Dambulla. On the other side of this rock are the beautiful cave temples. The cave temples are located halfway up the rock and are accessible via concrete stairs.
In these caves are many statues of Buddha including the very impressive large lying Buddha. The walls are decorated with paintwork. From this altitude you have a beautiful view of the surroundings and with clear weather you can even see the rock of Sigiriya.
